New Podcast Series - "Beyond the Finish Line"

This month, I’m excited to share something that’s been brewing for quite some time—a new podcast series I’ve created in collaboration with Influent, a resource platform for medical trainees and early career physicians.

“Beyond the Finish Line – Navigating the Journey after Residency”

As a physician coach, I’ve worked with countless doctors who emerge from residency thinking, “Wasn’t this supposed to get easier?”
What they often find instead is a new set of pressures: navigating contracts, finding their voice in clinical practice, managing debt, and trying to build a personal life they recognize between the charting and in-basket management.

This series was born out of that quiet confusion and the honest conversations I’ve had behind closed doors. It’s a space where we tackle the realities that come after training—the ones no one really prepares us for.

In each episode, I sit down with physicians who generously share their stories—unfiltered, often unexpected, and deeply relatable. You’ll hear from:

  • Dr. Naomi Jean Baptiste: From Residency to Resilience—her journey through personal struggles during residency and the creation of Hope4Med, a wellness platform for physicians.

  • Dr. Amna Shabbir: Breaking the Cycle—her battle with burnout and how she found purpose and balance after residency.

  • Dr. Gail Gazelle: Blueprint to Beat Burnout—insights into overcoming burnout and reclaiming joy in medicine through mindfulness and self-compassion.

  • Dr. Christopher Kodama: Navigating Healthcare Leadership—transitioning from clinical practice to healthcare leadership, offering insights into strategic growth and leadership in medicine.

  • Dr. Robyn Tiger: How Lifestyle Medicine Saved My Life—overcoming chronic stress by embracing lifestyle medicine and helping others manage stress through evidence-based practices.

  • DrJames Takahashi: Negotiating Your First Attending Job - Balancing Teaching and Clinical Care.

  • Dr. Michael Foti: When Residency Breaks You—facing burnout and personal loss shortly after residency and finding healing through journaling, therapy, and teaching.

  • Dr. Zhen Chan: Building a Startup While Practicing Medicine—balancing clinical work with leading a mission-driven tech company, GrapeVyne.

Together, we talk about identity, imposter syndrome, evolving goals, leadership, and the messy-but-beautiful process of figuring out who we are outside of the white coat.

If you’ve ever wondered what comes next—or how to build a life that’s not only successful, but sustainable and fulfilling—this series is for you.

Access video and audio versions below.

I hope you’ll tune in, reflect, and maybe even feel a little less alone in the journey. And if an episode speaks to you—write a review, “like it”, share it with a colleague. We all need reminders that this path is ours to shape.

With gratitude,
Dr. Joe
